Welcome to bennettitaleans of the world!
bennettital.es will over the time grow to a comprehensive reference work about Bennettitales.
The aim is to compile as much information as possible about this enigmatic group of gymnosperms.
The Bennettitales are an extinct lineage of seed plants with cycad-like foliage and flower-like reproductive organs extending from the Late Triassic to the Late Cretaceous.
The group has received considerable attention as possible sister to angiosperms and is in some phylogenetic analyses placed with Gnetales and angiosperms in the so called anthophyte clade.
The anthophyte concept is, however, not universally accepted and there is currently no consensus regarding interrelationships among the various groups of extant and extinct seed plants.
My research tended now to focus more and more towards bennettitaleans and their anatomy, taxonomy, evolution and ecology,
and therefore I started to launch these pages where little by little more information on bennettitaleans will be added.
I apologise that there's almost no content at the moment. But I keep working.
Welcome back from time to time and watch the progress!
